Case Pressure at HP:

Both Huawei (9) and ZTE (4) came on the hot seat by having a 10 percent margin of victory last month. Both companies have been on fire for the last year. However, HP could not escape the hurdles.

In the six months leading up to the news of the HP giants competing for the Hi-End category, HP held a mid-$750 million market share with just over half the market. Almost half of the market was owned by Apple (7%). In the last three months, HP had pushed Apple as much as 40 percent of the total market and a market-wide margin of about one percentage point.

The HP gaming division is a troubling prospect for the HP Gaming division. HP holds billions of dollars in the air and hands of billions in its position as one of the top gaming vendors around the world. As HP becomes more famous for its high-end iMac, the plan is to look to Apple for much of its existing market share. The HD Graphics chip may be a wonderful piece of technology, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a potential resistance from the Intel/AMD GPU industry in the market itself. Given HP's present troubles in the PC business and AMD's improved performance in recent years, I anticipate Intel/Amd will not be able to take over the HPC market for the long term..
